On our tour inside the capital, we saw many statues made of bronze or marble. This statue of George Washington was one of a very few that was made of another material: sandstone.
This is Brian standing in front of the US Supreme Court. Oddly enough, the doors to this court are less impressive than the FL Supreme Court doors (at least, that's what I think). The actual courtroom is also a little smaller, but it is decorated with lots of marble carvings.

On the last night in DC, we walked around outside to visit several of the monuments. It was cold, but not unbearably so. Here are a couple of the monuments we visited:

What a great trip! That is a city on my list of places to visit. I'm sure Rachel will take me there someday.
I hope so. It is a very cool place. I need to go back soon already because there were many things that I did not get to see. Plus, the metro system is very easy to use and generally clean. So you can stay outside of the immediate downtown area (in a hotel that is cheaper) and still have great access to everything (I used the Smithsonian stop several times).
Wow, those night pictures of the monuments came out really well. We should use that mode of the camera more.
Many of the night shots still came out fuzzy--I chose the best ones. But the mode did help a lot (as we did have some turn out well). :)
